Humboldt Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Independence American Legion joined together in Havana over the weekend to perform memorial and dedication ceremonies for William Click and David Oyler.

The Independence American Legion performed the memorial service first and then the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War performed the dedication ceremony in front of Carolyn Whitaker, her sister Nancy Stanberry and family. The 21-gun salute and “Taps” were played at each ceremony.

Oyler, who died in January at the age of 72, lived on a farm southeast of Humboldt as a child before moving to Chanute.

He became a professional trumpet musician, band leader and composer-arranger.

Oyler was the brother of Whitaker.

Click was a Civil War soldier.
