The second public COVID-19 vaccination clinic delivered 390 shots to residents 65 and older Thursday.

That’s on top of 300 vaccine doses given at the first clinic on Feb. 18.

The clinics are organized by the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Departments, with a team of about 25 volunteers assisting with things like parking lot management and patient registration.

“Our volunteers and staff did an outstanding job,” SEKMCHD Director Rebecca Johnson said. “We are so blessed with a wonderful community and all the assistance we received.”

The clinic initially was targeted for those age 75 and older, but later was opened to those 65 and older.

The next clinic will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Park for those age 65 and older.

Meanwhile, the pace of cases in Allen County has slowed, with 33 active cases last week. Throughout most of January and early February, the number of active cases numbered between 80 and 100.

The county has reported 1,119 total positive COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, with 16 deaths attributed to complications from the disease.

The decline in cases prompted Allen County Regional Hospital to slightly relax its visitor restrictions. The hospital will now allow one visitor per patient in the emergency room. The hospital previously allowed one visitor per patient in all other departments. Masks must still be worn, and patients and visitors will continue to be screened upon arrival.

The state, though, did add to its list of travel quarantines. Anyone who has traveled to the countries of Mayotte, Czechia, San Marino, Montenegro and Seychelles on or after Feb. 26 will need to quarantine.

Additionally, quarantines are required for anyone who attended out-of-state mass gatherings of 500 or more where individuals did not socially distance and wear a mask; and for anyone who attended a cruise on or after March 15, 2020.

Anyone who travels internationally must be tested within three days of flights into the U.S.
