Alana Kinzle brought a detailed plan to Allen County commissioners Tuesday morning for a garden park that would enhance the Veterans Wall on the south courthouse lawn, complete with benches and “eventually a fountain.”

Kinzle brought up the idea two weeks ago, to which commissioners were receptive.

Details are yet to be defined, including who might build the simple but attractive garden, how water could be brought to it and how long-term maintenance would be arranged.

“Talk to Ron (Holman, director of maintenance),” Commissioner Tom Williams said.

“I think volunteers could be found to plant flowers,” although maintenance likely would fall to Holman, Kinzle said.

Kinzle provided photos of examples used in other cities.

As for making water available, Holman said that was discussed several years ago and the estimate to bring a line from the courthouse was $4,000. Maybe city crews could do the work: “That’s quite feasible,” said City Administrator Carl Slaugh, who was at the meeting.

Kinzle said she will continue to flesh out plans.
