Volunteers were joined by Humboldt High School and Humboldt Middle School volleyball players for a game at the LaHarpe City Park Saturday

LaHarpe was abuzz with activity Saturday as the community gathered to celebrate a new fitness center at City Hall, a newly refurbished sand volleyball court and other amenities around town. Clockwise from top, a number of volunteers were joined by Humboldt High School and Humboldt Middle School volleyball players for a game at the LaHarpe City Park; several visitors tried out the exercise equipment in the fitness room, which includes a pair of recumbent bicycles, two elliptical machines, free weights, resistance bands and other items. The fitness center is slated to open soon, at a cost of $10 a month, for 24-hour access. At lower lower left, is a new “Welcome to LaHarpe” sign on display at TLC Garden Center. Next up is a new off-street limestone walking path circling the park. Funding for the new attractions came from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City and Kansas Health Foundation. TLC donated rock for the sign.
