Julie Dawn (Tarum) Tidd, 50, Iola, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at her home.
Julie was born June 16, 1961, in McPherson, the daughter of Melvin I. and Eunice E. (Bentson) Tarum. She was active in her growing-up years with church activities, where she sang in the junior choir, 4-H, where she studied sewing, foods and knitting, and high school, where she played the flute in the school band, played in the Wichita Youth Orchestra, played volleyball and was involved in journalism and yearbook. After graduation from McPherson High School in 1979, she moved to Wichita to study music education at Wichita State University.
Upon graduation with her bachelor’s degree in music education in 1984, she moved to Iola to be band instructor for Iola schools. She met David Tidd and they were married on June 13, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. Julie taught for seven years before she started her family.
