The 133rd Allen County Fair got off to a fashionable start Tuesday evening as Southwind 4-H’ers treated audience members to the annual Style Revue.
Competitors were rated on their skills in both clothing construction and “shopping in style.”
Aspen Wimsett racked up plenty of purple ribbons for her constructed pink and white portal dress. The Logan Pals 4-H’er was named the overall and senior division sewing and textile design champion, as well as the skills champion for those ages 13-18. On top of taking home the traveling trophy for the overall title, Wimsett also received a $25 Hobby Lobby gift card and a rotary cutter from the Coy Allen family.
Harper Gabbert, of Prairie Rose 4-H, was named the junior champion for sewing and textile design, bringing home a $25 Hobby Lobby gift card, for her floral skirt.
Jeanie Mentzer, who made a loose-fitting jumper for her first-year project, was named the skills champion for ages 7-12. The City Slickers 4-H’er also received a set of shears from the Coy Allen family.
THE competitors also were recognized for Shopping in Style (formerly known as buymanship.)
Henry Kramer, with his suit jacket ensemble, was named the boys senior champion. He received a $25 gift card for Jock’s Nitch.
Elijah Mentzer, looking sharp in a black-and-white suit, received a $25 Jock’s Nitch gift card for being named intermediate boys champion
Case Mentzer, who also donned a stylish suit jacket, was named junior boys champion. He, too, received a $25 Jock’s Nitch gift card.
On the girls’ side, Sophia Heim’s black-and-white outfit netted her the senior Shopping in Style grand championship. The Prairie Rose 4-H’er received a $25 gift card to Audacious Boutique, as did intermediate champion Lily Cunningham of Logan Pals 4-H, who donned a blue and yellow floral dress.
Brynleigh Borth, of Prairie Rose 4-H, was named the fiber arts senior champion for her blanket.
THE FAIR hits high gear Thursday, as the setting shifts to the Allen County Fairgrounds at Riverside Park, and runs through Sunday.
