Few folks get as much attention as does Noel Still when he’s working.

Still, who owns Majestic Movies in downtown Iola with his wife, Debra, has garnered the attention of passing motorists with his floppy hat and handheld billboard.

He’s usually spotted along U.S. 54, somewhere near the downtown square, waving the billboard to anyone who will notice.

A few honk or wave back, and even offer a smiling face.

Others aren’t so pleasant. He’s been harassed on occasion.

Those don’t cause him much fuss, Still notes. Nor does the hot weather that has blanketed Iola since mid-summer.

His primary goal is to get noticed, and to attract customers to his video store at 111 W. Madison Ave., where he offers an assortment of DVDs and Blu-Ray disks, most of which cost  $1 or less.

He remains bullish on home video products, even with the growth of video streaming.

“Streaming costs are going up,” he said. “Internet costs are going up. It’s getting very chaotic. We get lots of people who come in and don’t have the Internet.”

Still’s store is open Monday through Saturday.
