Steve French is seeking another term as Iola mayor. French, who also formerly served on the Iola City Council, is thus far the only candidate to have filed for the seat ahead of the June 2 deadline.

There are several other city and school board seats up for grabs across Allen County.

Iola City Councilman Nich Lohman has filed for a second four-year term representing Iola’s Third Ward, which covers the southwest quadrant of the city.

Council members who have not announced whether they are running for reelection include Joel Wicoff in Ward 2 (northeast) and Benedikt Middleton in Ward 4 (southeast).

Josiah D’Albini in Ward 1 (northwest), will not be running for re-election.

In Humboldt, City Councilman Blake McDaniel has filed to keep his seat representing Ward 1, Position 4. Others whose seats are up for re-election are held by Kent Goodner (Ward 1, Position 3), Cindy Holinsworth (Ward 2, Position 3) and Sarah Hart (Ward 2, Position 4). Humboldt has two voting wards, dividing the city in its northern and southern halves.

Humboldt Mayor Nobby Davis’ seat also is up for re-election.

Moran City Councilman Lee Roberts, whose seat is up for re-election, has filed to continue serving, but this time as mayor, a seat currently held by Jerry Wallis. Jim Mueller’s Council seat also is up for re-election. Moran’s seats are all at-large, which means its members do not represent a specific ward.

The LaHarpe City Council has three seats up for grabs, held by Cynthia Carr, Ronald Knavel Sr. and Sharlyn Thompson. Thompson has filed to stay on the Council. Harry Lee Jr. also has filed for a Council seat. LaHarpe Council seats are at-large.

Gas City Councilman Richard Morrison has filed to keep his seat, one of two up for grabs. The other is vacant. Mayor Kenneth Baker’s seat also is up for re-election.

JOHN WILSON has filed to keep his Iola-USD 257 Board of Education seat, one of three up for grabs. Other school board seats are held by John Masterson and Robin Griffin-Lohman.

Three seats are up for election for the Allen Community College Board of Trustees. Trustees Becky Nilges and Jessica Thompson have filed for re-election. The other seat is held by Jenny Spillman.

Ryan Smith has filed to retain his Marmaton Valley-USD 256 school board seat. The other two seats up for grabs are held by Kenneth McVey and Jackie Walls.

Three seats on the Humboldt-USD 258 school board up for re-election are held by Joyce Allen, Nathan Ellison and Ashley Johnson.

CANDIDATES have until noon June 2 to file with the Allen County Clerk’s office.

The general election is Nov. 4, unless enough candidates file to warrant a primary election for specific seats, which would be held Aug. 5.
