Induction ceremony to honor long-time educator, coach

Floyd C. Smith, a long-time Iola High School principal and Iola Junior College dean, will be inducted Friday in the Don Bain Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will follow the presentation of the IHS Homecoming candidates after the downtown parade.

Smith, who died in 1974, was Iola High principal for 28 years, retiring in 1965. He also served as dean of Iola Junior College, precursor to what is now Allen Community College, from 1947 to 1965. He also coached football, basketball and track at IHS.

The Homecoming parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday and wind up at the Allen County Courthouse Bandstand.

The 2025 Fall Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned prior to Friday evening’s football game against Anderson County.
