Monarch celebrates solar

A large crowd gathered Thursday for Monarch Cement Company's ribbon-cutting for a 97-acre, 20-megawatt solar farm adjacent to the Humboldt-based facility.

Walter Wulf Jr., center, cuts the ribbon Thursday morning to cap a ceremony marking completion of a 20-megawatt solar field for Monarch Cement Company in Humboldt.

Also on hand were representatives from Evergy, which partnered with Monarch to construct the solar panels across 97 acres adjacent to the Monarch complex.

They were joined by a throng of Monarch employees, Humboldt, Allen County and state officials and other well-wishers.
