What and where was the first railroad station in Iola?

How much do you know about the community’s rail history?

There’s a lot to learn, so call the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce to make reservations for a trolley tour of railroads in Iola Saturday.

Tickets for the 10 a.m. tour are available at the Chamber office in the lower level of the Bowlus Fine Arts Center.

Tickets sell for $10 apiece, and must be purchased in advance at the Chamber office, or by calling 365-5252 or 228-0439.

Donna Houser, tour organizer, said stops will include several locations where tracks were formerly located, and how they connected various industries in the Iola area. Trolley stops include the homes of Jim Smith and Ken Groves, both of which have elaborate railroad displays. Participants must be able to traverse a few blocks of walking along uneven terrain.

Organizers must sell at least 15 tickets prior to 4 p.m. Friday in order to cover expenses.
