Allen Community College’s softball team will play on the newly minted Bernie Blevins Field starting next season.
ACC Trustees approved Tuesday a request to rename the softball field in Blevins’s honor.
Blevins, who died in 2022, left $7.2 million to the college, with half of the donation dedicated to women’s sports; the other half to fund scholarships at the college.
Blevins, a Woodson County native, was a standout athlete at Allen, when it was still called Allen County Junior College. He eschewed an NFL tryout and instead embarked on a highly successful career, first delivering seafood, then in the oilfield industry.
Blevins’s donation, will “impact Red Devils for generations,” noted Josiah D’Albini, Allen’s director of advancement.
The motion to rename the field was supported by Allen’s Endowment Board and athletics departments, D’Albini said.
