Voters in or near Humboldt and LaHarpe will have new polling places to cast their votes during Tuesday’s primary election.

Humboldt voters will cast their ballots at the Humboldt United Methodist Church, 806 N. Ninth St. Previously, polls on Election Day had been set up at Humboldt’s First Baptist Church.

Meanwhile, voters who had previously gone to the LaHarpe Senior Center now must cast their votes at the Gas Community Center.

Closing the LaHarpe election station slices the number of Election Day polling places in Allen County to four. Others are at Iola’s John Silas Bass Community Building, 505 N. Buckeye St., and at the Moran Senior/ Community Center.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

While both Republicans and Democrats have a number of choices in statewide races, there’s only one local contested election in Allen County.

Republicans living in Allen County’s Third District will choose between John Brocker and Bruce for the Republican nomination for the Allen County Commission. Brocker has held the seat since being appointed by Republican precinct members following the resignation of former commissioner Jim Talkington.

The winner advances to face Democrat Steven Henderson in the Nov. 6 General Election.

The Third District includes much of Iola and parts south.

THERE ARE several statewide nominations up for grabs on Tuesday.

Seven Republicans are in the running for the GOP gubernatorial nomination. Another seven are seeking Lynn Jenkins’ Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Five others are in the running for secretary of state; two are vying for insurance commissioner.

Allen County Democrats have only one contested race Tuesday. Five are seeking the Democratic nod in the gubernatorial election.

ALLEN County Clerk Sherrie Reibel reported 183 advance ballots has been cast as of noon Friday, and another 120 absentee ballots had been mailed out to local voters.

Advance voting ends at noon Monday in the county clerk’s office in the courthouse.

Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday in order to be counted.
