Iola received more than $147,000 in sales tax revenues in January, a jaw-dropping 22 percent more than was collected over January 2018.
City Clerk Roxanne Hutton received the first sales tax of 2019 Tuesday. Reports come in about two months after a month ends.
Hutton noted Iolas sales tax proceeds had been stable over the first three months for the past five years.
Januarys take $147,685.39 is is more than $26,000 more than the $121,169.68 collected over the same time period one year earlier.
Much of the higher revenues can be attributable to ongoing construction of a wind farm in northern Allen County, Hutton explained, with higher receipts coming in from restaurants and grocery stores.
