Iola should have a new city administrator selected by the end of April, City Council members were told Monday.
The Council discussed the city administrator search with Anna Keena, representative of the League of Kansas Municipalities, which is assisting the city with the search.
Keena’s comments came as Council members ratified a contract with LKM to assist with the search for Carl Slaugh’s replacement. The city is paying the League $4,589.99 for its services.
The first review of applicants should be done by mid-March, Keena said, with prospective interviews scheduled by early April. Keena expects the city to select a candidate by April 18, with a contract of employment set a week later.
Slaugh announced previously his intention to retire in July.
COUNCIL MEMBERS tackled a pair of street-related measures at Monday’s meeting.
They approved a plan to mill and overlay five sections of roadway this year:
— South Kentucky Street from East to Rock streets.
— Kansas Drive from East to Monroe streets.
— Willow Drive from Vermont Street to Eisenhower Drive.
— East Carpenter Street from east of Kentucky Street to the end of the hard surface.
— South State Street from Madison Avenue to the south city limits.
All would require a 2-inch overlay, Street and Alley Superintendent Dan Leslie said.
The city has accumulated funds since the last mill and overlay work done in 2013, Leslie noted. The city also hopes to utilize Kansas Department of Transportation funds for street maintenance through a federal funds exchange program.
Council members hope to have a contractor selected by mid-March so the work can be done earlier in the season.
