Sorosis Club celebrates its 111th anniversary

Iola Sorosis members celebrated the club’s 111th anniversary April 9 at Calvary United Methodist Church. Twenty-three members and three guests attended. Mary Ann Patterson, club historian, talked about the club’s origins and activities over the past year.

She highlighted programs she had found from 1915 and 1916.

Lisa Maloney was introduced by Donna Beebe as this year’s scholarship recipient.

Judy Gifford of Girard entertained with jokes about weight loss. She played several songs on the keyboard, including “My Blue Heaven,” “I Don’t Know Why,” “My Happiness,” “Tennessee Waltz” and “The Sunny Side of the Street.”

Patterson will host the May 14 meeting at 9:30 a.m. LaFern Mc-Donald and Ardith Harris will serve as co-hostesses.
