HUMBOLDT — Humboldt’s downtown square will transform into a wild and wet extravaganza Saturday.
After a one-year hiatus, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Water Wars returns, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning with a water float parade.
From there, the focus shifts to a playground of foam, water slides, bubbles, ice challenges and other activities through the afternoon.
The afternoon wraps up with a frozen T-shirt race, water gun challenge and an all-age watermelon eating contest.A number of food trucks, a craft beer garden and a stage of free music will also be provided.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own water guns; a limited supply is on hand to give away for those who don’t have any water-based ammunition.
Water Wars was first inspired by the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department in the mid 1980s, usually concluding with youngsters being doused with water.
