Alan Dean Van Fleet, 65, Burlington, died Dec. 20, 2012, at the Life Care Center in Burlington.
Alan was born to Melvin and Lucy Jarvis Van Fleet on Feb. 13, 1947, at Roanoke Rapids, N.C.
He married Sandy Skaggs in April of 1994. They were later divorced.
He graduated from Junction City High School in 1965, then studied accounting at Brown Mackey College in Salina, and also attended Emporia State University.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Le Roy. During his life he worked in construction, as a cashier, and at the Coffey County Recycling Center for five years. He volunteered for Coffey County Transportation in the late ’80s and early ’90s. He had also volunteered for the Resource Center for Independent Living, for which he learned sign language.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marsha.
Alan is survived by his son, Dakota Van Fleet, El Dorado; three step-children, Casey Womelsdorf, Missouri, Lacey Wolmesdorf, Topeka, and Tacey Wolmesdorf, Chanute; three brothers, Jerry Van Fleet and wife Terri, Harker Heights, Texas, Terry Van Fleet, Houston, Texas, and Doug Van Fleet and wife Jan, Wichita; three sisters, Karen Farthing and husband Ronnie, El Dorado, Victoria Kujala and husband Brian, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Sandy Pratt, Tucson, Ariz.; other relatives and friends.
Alan was cremated. There will be a private inurement in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery, El Dorado, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the A.L.S. Foundation or the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation through Jones Funeral Home, Burlington.
