Arlene Louise Thornhill, 93, Iola, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017 at Windsor Place in Iola.
Arlene was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Akron, N.Y., to Norman and Evelyn (Kaderli) Brewer. She graduated from Akron High School and thereafter worked in an airplane factory and later a weapons factory. She met Russell C. Thornhill and they were married in 1958.
After coming to Iola, she came to own and operate Thornhill’s Liquor Store. She sold the store in 1996 due to her health. She and Russ also owned and managed Thornhill’s Trailer Court. Arlene was a lifetime member of the P.T.A. and was involved in many Cub Scout and Boy Scout activities.
Survivors include her children Nancy Haas and husband Fred, Buffalo, N.Y., Teresa Turton and husband Roger, also of Buffalo, David Cescon and wife Carol, Iola, Larry Thornhill and wife Teresa, Richmond, and Harold Thornhill, Iola; daughters-in-law, Barb Thornhill and Betty Thornhill; her longtime companion, Carter Stiffler, Iola; a brother, Roger Brewer and wife Doris, Akron, N.Y.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Robert, Bill and Carl Thornhill, her parents, a brother, Dorwin Brewer, and two sisters, Beulah and Carol.
Visitation was Wednesday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola. Her funeral service is at 2 p.m. today, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
