Carol D. Mix, 82, former director of the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce and of the Bowlus Fine Arts Center, 1982-84, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, in Lee’s Summit where she was a resident of John Knox Village.
She was born in Ashland, Ky. She graduated from Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and earned her master of science degree in education from Pittsburg State University. She taught high school and junior college English for 26 years in Kentucky, New Jersey, Hawaii and Kansas. She played the piano and organ for various churches and musical groups and enjoyed participating in community theater productions.
She is survived by three sons, Douglas, Michael and Gregory; a daughter, Kathryn; daughters-in-law Lois, Jan, and Patricia; son-in-law David Dulinsky; three sisters, Ruth Truman, Sarah Craig, and Bonnie Crandall; two brothers-in-law, Lee Truman and Ron Crandall; nine grandchildren, Rae, Erin, Casey, Shannon, Megan, Clinton, Eric, Jonathan, and Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 29, 2011, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 350 S.W. 150 Highway, in Lee’s Summit. A reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at John Knox Village Sun Valley Club House, 301 N.W. Craigmont Rd., Lee’s Summit, hosted by Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
