Doris J. Bishop, 86, Iola, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015 at Allen County Regional Hospital.
Doris was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Neosho Falls, the daughter of George and Susan (Henry) Stephens. She grew up in the Neosho Falls and Yates Center areas. She graduated from Yates Center High School in 1946 and on May 15, 1946, she married Chester “Chet” Bishop in Iola. They made their home in Idaho until 1950 when they moved back to Kansas. She worked at King’s Sandwich Shop and retired from the food service department of USD 257. Chet preceded her in death Jan. 15, 2015.
Doris was a member of Iola Baptist Temple. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling and being with her grandchildren.
Her three children survive, Stephen Bishop and wife Rita, Independence, Susie Call and husband Terry, Iola, and Judy Slife, Iola. She also is survived by a brother, Kelly Stephens, Platte City, Mo., six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son-in-law Kenny Slife and five siblings, Carl Stephens, Alice Lomon, Donna Hendryx, Georgia Stewart and Glee Edgington.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Iola Baptist Temple. Burial will follow at Yates Center Cemetery.
