Eileen M. Cooper, 89, of rural Iola died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at her home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1920, on the family farm west of Colony, to Joseph and May (Irwin) Gregory. She grew up in Colony where she graduated from high school in 1939.
After high school, she worked at S.H. Kress in Iola.
On Aug. 22, 1943, she married Ivan H. Cooper. He served during World War II. In January 1944, she and Vieve Crammer Singleton went to San Diego, Calif., and worked for the Vultee Aircraft Corporation. When her husband was transferred to Fort Dix, N.J., she went there and picked blueberries. He went to Europe and she returned to Iola and worked at JCPenney and later at Economy Shoe Store. He died Feb. 23, 2003.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Iola and enjoyed her flower gardens.
She is survived b a daughter, Carol Wilson, Iola; a grandson, Kelly Wilson, rural Iola; a great-granddaughter, Chandler Wilson; and nieces and nephews.
A sister, Helen Maloney, died earlier.
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola prior to leaving in procession for graveside services at 10 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate.
