George Earl Croan, 72, of Garnett died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Anderson County Long Term Care Facility in Garnett.
He was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Centerville, to George Franklin and Mae Amanda (Cass) Croan. He graduated from Kincaid High School and served in the U.S. Air Force before returning to the area.
On Dec. 23, 1961, he married Irene Lyons in Osawatomie.
For a number of years, he was employed by Osawatomie railroad yards and a concrete material construction company. He then worked for Garnett Church Furniture Factory until an accident forced him into early retirement.
He liked to fish and hunt, play golf and baseball and ride in rodeos in his younger years. He was a member of the Association of Bowhunters, coached little league and liked to follow the Kansas City Chiefs, University of Kansas basketball and played on the Garnett Lakers.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Lorita Jean Smith and her husband, Kelly, Omaha, Neb., a son, Dennis Wayne Croan and his wife, Patricia Ann, Garnett, and a daughter, Wynona Lynn Baum and her husband, Jeff, Chanute; two sisters, Beverly King, Humboldt, and Nellane Stussie and her husband, Gary, Lawrence; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Perkins, Brandon Smith, Alex Croan, George Croan II, Kyle Croan, Jacob Croan, Megan Croan, Caleb Croan, Justin Baum and Kaitlyn Baum; a great-granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews; and numerous family members and friends.
A son, George Ellis, an infant brother, John Charles, and an infant sister, Earlene Croan, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Burial will follow in Garnett Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
