Ivor “Dave” N. Davis, Jr., Humboldt, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, after a battle with ALS. He was 81.
Dave was born April 25, 1932 in Canton, Miss., to I.N. Davis Sr. and Tennie Harvey.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was a career man of 20 years. He had been stationed throughout the world, serving in 57 countries in all. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972.
He earned his B.A. in business from Pittsburg State University and was employed by Lockheed and worked in Iran and Greece.
He, along with his wife Marilyn, lived in the same house in Humboldt for 40 years and raised their four youngest children there.
Dave enjoyed taking care of his yard, collecting coins and all types of family gatherings, especially the one that included ice cream.
He was a member of the American Legion of Yates Center. He served his community as a Municipal Judge for the City of Humboldt and as a Boy Scout leader.
Dave is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn; his children, Tom Davis, Yates Center, Nan Kaufman and Nobby Davis, Humboldt, Cindy Carter, Ponder, Texas, Shelli Zinser, Mount Vernon, Mo., Jeff Davis, Chanute, Deb Jenks, Coos Bay, Ore.; and a sister, Judy Johnson, Raymond, Miss.
Dave had 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Chet, son Joe Davis, Lawrence, an infant great-grandchild, one brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at Humboldt United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Humboldt United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Yates Center Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials are suggested to ALS Foundation or Humboldt Historic Preservation Alliance and may be left with Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
