James Russell Bartlett, 64, Bronson, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. He was born Nov. 9, 1949, in Fort Scott, the son of Clyde Wallace Bartlett and Doris Etta White Bartlett. He attended Bronson schools until his senior year, graduating from Moran High School. He then attended Fort Scott Community College. He married Janene Moody.
James farmed his entire life until an injury forced him to stop in 2004. He was a member of the Mt. Orum Baptist Church. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed, especially by his dog Cubby.
Survivors include his wife Janene; children Corey Townsley and wife Kiersten, Winston Salem, N.C., April Renee Brunk and husband Jim, Independence, Alysha Bartlett, Atchison; grandchildren Mercedes Bartlett, Bradley Bartlett, Noah Brunk; great-grandchild Luca Bartlett; a brother, Rick Bartlett and wife Annette, Bronson; sister Rochelle Bartlett, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and many adopted children through the years, including Michelle DeMott and Shawn Pritchett, and adoptive grandchildren Allis and Avery DeMott. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Bartlett, and his parents.
Pastor Waylon Ingle will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bronson Chapel. Private family burial will take place in Bronson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Orum Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel, P.O. Box 93, 501 Pine, Bronson, KS 66716.
