Jay E. Leedy, 77, Neosho Falls, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Mission Health in Yates Center.
Jay was born July 20, 1937, on the family farm west of Neosho Falls, the son of Eugene Newport and Gladys Gertrude (Lynn) Leedy. He graduated from Neosho Falls High School in 1955 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
On Oct. 25, 1959, Jay married Hazel Crumley in Rushville, Ill. They made their home in Lenexa for 20 years. He worked as maintenance supervisor at Children’s Mercy Hospital and later was director of plant operations at The Rehabilitation Institute. He started pulling oil wells and they moved to Neosho Falls.
He was a member of the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church and also served as mayor of Neosho Falls.
His wife of 55 years survives, as do two sons: Mark Leedy, Yates Center, and Ken Leedy and wife Susan, Yates Center; two grandchildren, Caitlin and Morgan; and two siblings, Robert Leedy, Chanute, and Mary Lynn Beaman, Spring Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church.
