Jerry L. Hess, 75, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
He was born May 7, 1934, in Iola, the son of James and Genevieve (Ellis) Hess. He graduated from Humboldt High School and moved to El Dorado in 1957. He was a sheep and livestock rancher and worked at Texaco Refinery on the Coker Unit for 38 years before his retirement. 
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, was active in leadership in 4-H and was honored for his work with the Butler Community College Livestock Judging Team.
In September 1956, he married Beverly Snodgrass. She died in 1992. He later married Lila (Eddings) Seglem on March 19, 1993, at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Christina Pyles and her husband, Bill, El Dorado; three stepchildren, Mary Shields and her husband, Kent, Dallas, Texas, Cathy Clark and her husband, Ken, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Jerry Seglem and his wife, Linda, Burns Flat, Okla.; a grandson, Charles William Jr.; eight stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers and their spouses, Phil and Margaret, Butler, Mo., Bob and Susie, Lawrence, and Bernie and Pat, Humboldt; and a sister, Mary Brigham, Leighton, Pa.
A brother, Charles, and sisters, Ann Ballinger and Julie Hess, died earlier.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado with a Mass following at 1:30. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
