John Wall, age 67, of Iola, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, at his home.
John was born on Sept. 18, 1952, at Hoisington. John was the fifth of five children born to Howard and Elsie (Shover) Wall. John’s family moved to Iola when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Iola High School with the Class of 1969.
John served in the U.S. Army for three years during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in South Korea where he trained the R.O.K. Army.
After serving in the Army, John graduated from Southwestern College. He then worked at various jobs in Wichita before going to work for an accounting firm. In 1980, John branched out on his own, starting Clayton Corporation, his current firm in Iola.
John studied to become a certified dance instructor at Arthur Murray Studios in Kansas City. After gaining his certification he owned and operated Studio 54, near LaHarpe, where he was a dance instructor. It was through this business that John met his future wife. John married Beth Miller on Oct. 14, 1995, at First Presbyterian Church, Iola. Their union was blessed with three sons.
In his younger years, John enjoyed boxing and studying karate. He took flying lessons and became a pilot for small planes, which he gave up when he married Beth because of the higher life insurance cost.
John’s work kept him particularly busy around tax deadlines; but, in his free time John could be found relaxing, playing his electric guitar or mowing his yard. He especially enjoyed family trips to Colorado and Florida and just being able to spend time with Beth and their boys. John’s family was an important part of his life. He was grateful for his Saturday lunches with his brother and the Thanksgivings spent with Beth’s extended family in Alabama.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Carol Hamm.
He is survived by his wife, Beth and their sons, William Clayton, Jonathan Edward and Daniel Joseph of the home; two sisters and a brother, Billie Middleton of Carter Lake, Iowa, Kaye Pope of Monroe City, Mo., and Thomas H. Wall of Iola; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at First Presbyterian Church, Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
Memorials are suggested to the John Wall Family Education Fund and may be left with the funeral home. Condolences may be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
