Keith R. Bliss was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Iola, the son of Wayne and Esther (Laymon) Bliss. He passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Home.
Keith grew up in the Iola area, graduating in 1955 from Elsmore High School. He later attended Kansas State University. Through his involvement in 4-H, Keith demonstrated early on an avid interest in ham radios, electronics and technology. He then developed a passion for trucking, serving as a driver and trainer for Swift Trucking Company in his later years. He was also a member of the James R. Cutler American Legion Post #39 in Abilene.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Bliss and Phillip “Tim” Bliss, his wife Diane Bliss of Enterprise, sister Betty Jo Melcher of Newton, a niece, one great-nephew, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy, brother-in-law Elvin Melcher, a niece and her husband, a great-nephew, a granddaughter, and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the First Christian Church in Abilene with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time. His final resting place will be in the Highland Cemetery at Iola at a later date.
