Mable Ellen Scoville, 100, formerly of Iola, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at St. Mary’s Manor in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Mable was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Clarence J. and Mabel (Overman) Bricker. Her father died when she was 2 and she moved to a farm three miles south of Iola where she was raised by her grandparents, John and Ellen Overman. She attended country school at Star Valley and graduated from Iola High School in 1931.
On March 9, 1935, Mable married Vernon Scoville and they made their home in California. He died Nov. 17, 1953. She returned to Iola in 1964 to care for her mother. She worked a number of years in the Allen County Clerk’s office retiring in 1977. She moved to Kansas City in 2005.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Iola and helped with the formation and operation of Iola Senior Center.
At the age of 65, Mable gave her life to Jesus Christ. On June 27, He welcomed her home! She loved to read her Bible, pray for family and friends, and faithfully attend church. We will miss her, and treasure our wonderful memories!
Survivors are her two daughters, Betty Brown and husband, Roger, Corona, Calif., and Jeanne Puckett and husband, Mike, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at First Baptist Church in Iola, with visitation prior to the service. Burial will be at Iola Cemetery.
