Stan Scoville, 69, Iola, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, doing what he enjoyed most, riding his bicycle on the Prairie Spirit Trail.
Stan was born Sept. 5, 1945, in Lompoc, Calif., the son of Jess and Lottie (Hudoba) Scoville. He graduated from Iola High School and Pittsburg State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force. After receiving master’s degrees from both Pittsburg State University and the University of Kansas, he taught physics and chemistry at Labette County High School. He retired from teaching in 2004, but continued doing research projects and writing grants for Pittsburg State University.
On March 19, 1994, Stan married Marlene Brummer Duke and they made their home in Iola. He was an avid bicycle rider.
Survivors include his wife Marlene Scoville, of the home; one step-daughter, Leslie Duke and husband, Ryan Redyke, Tulsa, Okla.; one grandson Rex.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, at First Baptist Church in Iola.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Iola.
