Marilyn Hemminger

Marilyn Sue Hemminger, 74, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 17, 2018 at her home with her family by her side under the care of the Iowa River Hospice.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Marilyn will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. Marilyn Mollohan was born on Oct. 24, 1943 in Iola, to Roger and Blanche Morgan Mollohan. She graduated from Iola High School in 1961. April 18, 1994, Marilyn was united in marriage to David Hemminger Sr. Marilyn worked for Wolfe Eye Clinic for 21 years, retiring in 2006. Marilyn had a passion for golf and was a member of the Women’s Legion Golf Association. Marilyn and Dave also enjoyed vacationing during the winter months in Perdido Key, Fla.

Marilyn loved life. Her family and friends were her greatest joy. She was always up for any adventure as long as it sounded like fun! If it included the beach, wine, and a casino, she was even happier. Always smile when you think of Marilyn, her laughter was contagious and will be forever missed!

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 24 years, Dave; children, Suzette (Brian) Dostal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bric (Debbie) Garrett of Blue Springs, Mo., and Chip Garrett of Des Moines, Iowa, as well as stepchildren, David (Joyce) Hemminger Jr. of Le Grand, Iowa, Deb Specht of Marshalltown and Dan Hemminger of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Brennon, Natasha, Mitch, Grant, Noah, Drew. Also surviving are her sister, Judy Johnston, and niece Roxy (Ken) Dzikiewicz of Alpine, N.Y. and half-brother Ron Mollohan, as well as stepbrothers Will and Ron Cleaver and families.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Blanche, stepfather Bud Cleaver and brother Tom Mollohan.
