Robert John Percy passed away in Manhattan on Aug. 2, 2016, at the age of 94.
He was born on a farm near Carlyle on Sept. 7, 1921, the oldest of six sons to Mack Joseph and Pearl Pansy Latimer Percy.
Raised on the farm and in his hometown of Iola, he graduated from Iola High School in 1938.
He attended Iola Junior College and served in the National Guard. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Pearl Harbor Day in 1941, and had a 27-year career in the service, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
After retiring from the service, he graduated from Kansas State University and then worked as a chief examiner for the Kansas Department of Credit Unions and as an auditor at KSU.
Robert is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan Kathleen Burke Percy; and by three sons John Eric (Jennie), Beaufort, S.C., James Kent (Carol), Americus, and Robert Allen (Karen), Toronto, Canada; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar (Mary Jeanne), Phoenix, Ariz., and Claude, Shawnee Mission; one sister-in-law, Jeanne Ann Percy, Iola; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Leslie Percy, Eugene Mack Percy and William Glenn Percy; two nephews, Michael K. Percy and Thomas M. Percy; and by two sisters-in-law, Ramona Reipen Percy and Yvonne Dreher Percy.

Services were Friday and interment was at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Fort Riley with full military honors.
