Robert E. “Bob” Swift, 87, Colony, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born March 3, 1931, in Matfield Green, to Fred and Jenny Swift. He met the love of his life at an early age, and married Charlotte Lammon when she was a sophomore in high school. They made their home in Colony in 1953, while Bob was working for the City Service Gas Company in Welda. When Bob wasn’t working, he could usually be found at the local coffee shop playing cards with his buddies. If you couldn’t find him in the coffee shop, then you knew he was either in the field or tending to his numerous cattle operations. Family was very near and dear to Bob’s heart. He never missed a graduation, and was always available at a moment’s notice if he was needed, sometimes whether he was needed or not. Bob will always be remembered for his willing helping hand, and his generous, friendly nature.
Bob is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of the home; two sons, Jack Swift and wife, Rosslyn, Kansas City, Mo., and Dale Swift, Colony; grandchildren, Tim Hoffman, Tracy Garrett, Stephanie Plaschka, Brett Swift, Jessica Kinnett, Brian Meyerholtz, David Meyerholtz, John Meyerholtz and Matthew Talmadge, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson;  and two siblings, Charlie Swift and Ruby Everett.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Meyerholtz, by his parents, and siblings Harold Swift, Jewel Swift, Crystal Smith, Ralph Swift, Forrester Swift, Freddie Swift and George Swift.
Services are Saturday at Colony Community Church. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2. Burial will follow at Colony Cemetery.
Contributions in his memory are suggested to Colony Community Church. Condolences can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
