Velma Lorene Ashlock, 96, of Carlyle died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born Dec. 24, 1913, in Yuma County, Colo., to James A. and Mary Ella (Schroyer) Fuller. When she was nine months old the family returned to Kansas, settling near Harris. She attended Harris Grade School and graduated from Garnett High School. She spent several years doing housework for others along with caring for the ailing and elderly.
On May 5, 1937, she married Earl F. Van Wie. They made their home on a farm near Mont Ida until moving to a farm near Colony in 1943. In 1947, they moved to Carlyle. He died March 13, 1977.
In 1980, she married Curtis Koch. He died in 1991. She married Charles Ashlock in 1994 and he died Dec. 25, 1998.
She was a member of Carlyle Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and piecing quilts.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosie Stranghoner and her husband, Ronnie, Carlyle; a sister, Maxine Gorden, Garnett; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A sister, Pauline Kratzberg, and three brothers, Claude, Norman and Clifford Fuller, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carlyle Presbyterian Church. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Garnett Cemetery.
