Weldon Dean Goodell Sr., 92, Colony, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Residential Living Center, Garnett.
He was born May 10, 1925, in Colony, the son of Fred W. and Leona (Nickels) Goodell. Weldon graduated from Colony High School.
Weldon married Wilma Smith on Dec. 12, 1943, in Iola. This union was blessed with four children.
He was a cattleman farmer throughout his life and they made their home near Colony. Weldon enjoyed watching rodeos and loved his horses. He was known for managing a commercial cow herd and Holstein steers.
He was a member of the Colony Lions Club, Rural Watershed, Colony School Board and helped get the school built. For more than 40 years, he was on the Colony football chain gang. He also enjoyed watching basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lovina Appelman and Lorraine Goodell.
Weldon is survived by his wife, Wilma Goodell, of the home; his children, Bill Goodell and wife Phyllis, Colony, Marie Plinsky and husband Dave, Topeka, Carolyn Schwab and husband Terry, Newton, and Dean Goodell and wife Lesa, Ottawa; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the High Point Cowboy Church, 204 E. Fourth St., Colony, the former funeral home, with burial to follow in the Colony Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 16 N. Buckeye St., Iola.
