Now, the wait.
Tuesday, those living and working in the low-lying parts of Iola and local communities scrambled to evacuate their homes and businesses in anticipation of what is expected to be substantial flooding when the gates of John Redmond Dam are released this afternoon.
Bathtubs and sinks are brimming in the event the water plant is shut down. Local stores have sold out of packaged water and sand bags.
Nerves are fraying at the thought of impending doom. The pain of the 2007 flood is still too recent, the thought of bearing such pain again too much for many of us to imagine.
On the other hand, hearts are thankful for the brief reprieve of rain on Tuesday to allow for the transport of belongings.
For the next several days, we may not be so lucky.
BRACING for the worst, reminds us of the many blessings we already have. Friends who come to our aid. Emergency services that keep us aware of impending danger.
And simply the realization that because theres an army of private and public services that will come to our aid, well make it, no matter how bad it gets.
