Letters to the editor

opinions

March 27, 2015 - 12:00 AM

Dear editor,
The Board of USD 257 is clearly within its right to make the decision on attendance centers because of the agreed to dates: asked for and given at the meeting of March 9. That being said, there is no excuse for this board to disregard and ignore public input and insult those people expressing their opinions.
As an elected group, this current board is in effect a “lame duck” that has come to realize that its legacy will not be remembered for new schools or expensive electronic toys. Because only three seats will be filled by new individuals, the majority of the new board will still consist of the current leadership and mindset that prevails today. The effect of the upcoming election on this board is moot. Therefore, we may expect the next two years to be a mirror image of the past two years with the same “rush to decision” antics; unabated by reason, common sense or public input.
Respectfully,
Larry Walden,
Iola, Kan.

Dear editor:
I wanted to take the time to send this letter regarding Aaron Franklin. I have known Aaron for over five years and have known him to be nothing but an upstanding individual. We met in the work force and found that we had similar passions.  He showed me his sincere dedication to doing “the right thing.” His integrity is that of the highest standard. Aaron was that person that you never had to worry about him being honest, caring and sincere. He has a passion for wanting to help people and to assure that everyone is treated fairly. He is also a team player, always helping in any manner he can.
Aaron Franklin would be a great addition to your city council. Without question he would work hard in listening and understanding opinions of the people and would serve as a great voice of the people he represented when bringing the issues to the council table. He would also understands that sometimes there may be difference of opinions, but would be respectful in discussing the difference of opinion. Aaron has worked in the business world and understands the need to work together as a team in order for success to occur.
By far, I think having Aaron Franklin as a city council member you would be getting a person that is dedicated, sincere, engaging, respectful and a team player. What more could you ask for in a city councilman!

 Dear editor,
Aaron Franklin is a remarkable citizen of Iola. He will make an excellent city councilman if he is elected.
Aaron exemplifies hard work and perseverance. He has never shied away from obstacles. Instead, he has always looked for ways to overcome them. Aaron has the remarkable ability to see scenarios from many different angles and he has always encouraged others around him to try and see different perspectives as well. In fact, Aaron is known by those close to him as playing devil’s advocate. If you ask him, he will tell you that since before he can recall, he has always known what his purpose in life has been. His purpose has always been to make our world a better place. Aaron has spent years bettering the community of Iola and the individuals that live there, especially the children. Running for Iola City Council is his next step in improving our world, and the community of Iola specifically. Aaron excels at everything he does and he will no doubt excel as a city councilmen. I am blessed to call him my brother and while this may lead to some bias on my part, I know without a doubt, he has the citizens of Iola’s best interest at heart. Thank you.
