In the home stretch, Allen Community College’s men’s basketball team scored a whopping 110-61 win over Ottawa University JV Braves at home Monday night.
ACC scored 13 consecutive points early, with Jordan Nanton scoring on a transition layup to give the Red Devils a 13-2 lead.
Jermaine Long extended the lead to 18-4 with a 3-pointer a minute later. Over the next four minutes, Allen ran the score to 31-4. Once halftime rolled around, ACC held a 46-19 lead.
“We talked in the pregame that your approach is to continue to create good habits,” coach Andy Shaw said. “We turned the basketball over nine times in the first half. So, we addressed that at halftime. We need to get quality looks and stop turning the basketball over.”
The second half was more of the same for Allen — more points.
Courtney Stockard scored on a drive to the basket to give Allen a 51-26 lead with 18:10 left. He led the team with a triple-double. Stockard scored 10 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 11 assists.
Darius Redrick scored an old-fashioned 3-pointer to give Allen a 71-40 lead with 10:30 left. He drove to the basket, picked up the foul and made the free throw. He ended the night with a double-double, scoring a game-high 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
With the game all but over, Darren Spruill finished it off with a 3-pointer. He was fouled on the play, but missed the free throw. Allen led 101-54 with 3:40 to go.
“It was a total team effort. We had five guys score in double-figures and three guys score nine points,” Shaw said. “We were able to spread the wealth around and everybody played pretty well. It was kind of a tune-up game.”
Following Stockard and Redrick, Spruill finished with 15 points. Jordan Nanton scored 12 points and Ayinede Starling scored 10. Long, Darnell Jones-Bowie and Josh Sweet finished with nine points each.
ACC (15-12) heads to Johnson County Wednesday.
“We have three conference games left. Johnson and KCK on the road, then Coffeyville here,” Shaw said. “So, those will be our last three games of the season. We’re in first place in both conference and region, so we need to look to finish strong here and try to win both.
“We’re in a good position if we can take care of some business.”

ALLEN GIRLS FALL
ARKANSAS CITY — Allen Community College’s girls basketball team lost to Cowley 76-35 on Saturday.
The team struggled handling the ball and breaking the full-court Cowley press. Ashley Sally led the Red Devils with nine rebounds and eight points.
ACC plays Wednesday at Johnson Community College.
