With successful runs through the regular season, Allen Community College athletes have set their sights squarely on the postseason.
The ACC women’s soccer team, with its eight wins, will open the Region VI playoffs this afternoon at Barton Community College.
The Red Devils dropped their final regular season game Thursday, falling at sixth-ranked Butler, 8-2.
The game had been pushed back and moved from the ACC campus in Iola to Butler’s facility in El Dorado because of rain Wednesday.
Allen’s Lexi Godlove extended her school record with her 20th goal. She scored on an assist from Kyleigh Rowe.
In the second half, Jordan Vigola ripped a shot that hit the crossbar. Beka Zellers was there to corral the rebound and punch in a backside goal.
Keelie Arbuckle registered five saves. Lacie Thornton added six saves in goal.
Allen (9-8 and 7-6 in Jayhawk Conference play) will take on Barton at 2:30 p.m.
The match is the second of the season betwen Allen and Barton. The Cougars defeated Allen, 3-0, on Sept. 21.
The winner advances to face either Johnson County or Dodge City at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka. The Region VI championship is Friday at Topeka.

THE ALLEN men, 8-6 overall, will hit the road Sunday to visit Johnson County (11-6). The teams squared off Oct. 9, with Johnson scoring a goal late in the second half on a penalty kick to secure a 1-0 victory. The winner will face either Coffeyville or Northwest Kansas Technical College Thursday in Topeka. The championship is at noon Friday.

ALLEN’S volleyball team is two matches away from a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
The two matches look to be tough ones.
The Red Devils will head to Overland Park Nov. 9 to take on Johnson County. Johnson swept Allen in three sets Oct. 23.
A win puts ACC against either Kansas City, Kan., or Highland later that day.
The championship follows the semifinal matches.
