Allen Community College’s bats went silent on the softball diamond Friday, a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the visitors from Coffeyville. COFFEYVILLE scored two in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead before Allen’s Kayla Bourgeois drilled a solo shot over the center field fence in the bottom of the fourth for the Red Devils’ only run. ALLEN returns home Tuesday to host Neosho County for a doubleheader.
The Red Ravens picked up 7-2 and 11-1 wins to keep Allen winless in Jayhawk Conference and Region VI play.
Allen mustered only five hits in the opener and four in the nightcap.
Coffeyville led 4-0 before Allen scored its first run of the opener in the bottom of the second. Bailey Burnett doubled and scored on Jordan Barber’s one-out-grounder.
That was it until Barber singled and scored on Cassidy Reynolds’ RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Mackenzi Beck took the loss, surrendering nine hits in five innings with one walk and one strikeout. Among the hits was a two-run blast by Coffeyville’s Myka Meador in the top of the first.
Burnett had ACC’s only extra-base hit. Shelby Maycumber, Barber, Callie Beene and Reynolds all singled.
Marissa Luna came on in relief and pitched two innings, allowing an unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.
Allen’s other hits were singles by Burnett, Beene and Erika Keene.
