Fillies are third at Doc Stiles Invitational
Italy Loving ran her best race of the season in her own backyard, so to speak. Loving, a Crest High senior, won the 2010 Iola High Doc Stiles Invitational varsity girls’ race Tuesday.
“It’s awesome. I really ran well today and it’s good to win this one,” Loving said after posting a first-place time of 18 minutes, 16 seconds for the 4K course.
Crest High is in Colony, just 10 miles north of Iola.
Iola High’s Fillies placed four of their five runners in medal positions. They scored 89 points, good for third place in the team standings.
Independence won the team trophy with 31 points. Makenzie Vining led the Lady Bulldogs by placing second in 18:36. Fredonia was second with 62 points.
“This was the first meet we’ve had where the weather was nice and the course was not wet,” said Marvin Smith, Iola High head coach. “Our girls ran pretty well. Sydney Owens had another good race.”
Owens turned in a fifth-place medal performance for the Fillies in 19:21. Leah Weir picked up the 11th-place medal in 29:34.
Kristen Linn placed 19th in 29:39 and Abby Works ran 23rd in 21:08. Both earned medals. Briann Burris placed 31st in 23:40.
Crest High’s Addie Rhea took home the 14th-place medal in 20:07.
Humboldt High’s Raquel Hill claimed the 21st-place medal in 21:04.
Marmaton Valley High’s Ashtynn Louk captued second in the girls’ junior varsity race. She ran the 4K race in 19:58.
Iola’s Jordan Dillingham ran 10th in 22:11. Jennica Rausch took the 15th-place medal in 23:17.
Missing out on a medal by two places was Crest’s Erica Holman. Holman took 22nd in 26:01. Humboldt had K. Todd in 23rd at 26:23.
Next Thursday, Iola, Crest, Marmaton Valley and Humboldt compete in the Central Heights High Invitational in Richmond.
