Humboldt baseball and softball traveled to Cherryvale on Thursday and both teams swept through the Chargers.

Cubs baseball won 2-0 and 4-2 to move to 16-2 while softball won 21-5 and 13-5. They are 15-3 overall.

Humboldt baseball had very little margin for error in game one. A run in the top of the fourth broke a three-inning scoreless tie and two innings later, they doubled it with another one to wrap up all of the offensive fireworks in game one.

The game was won on the back of a two-hit, two-walk seven-inning shutout by starter Gunner Elder.

Conor Haviland had two hits in the win.

The Cubs topped their game one offensive output in just one inning in game two. Three runs crossed in the top of the first for the Cubs countered by a run by Cherryvale in the bottom of the inning.

The Chargers got one more across in the bottom of the third to get within a run and that would be it until Humboldt topped everything off with a final run in the top of the seventh.

Senior Xavier Bauer earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in four innings.

Senior Dagen Goodner got a three-inning save, allowing three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Taylor Lassman and Joe Murrow each had two hits including a double and a three-run homer.

Unlike Humboldt baseball, the Lady Cub softball team had zero problem scoring runs.

Humboldt scored three runs to start game one and Cherryvale responded with two of their own in the bottom of the first.

Five Lady Cubs crossed in the third and two more scored in the fourth to push their lead to 10-2. The Lady Chargers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth before 11 Humboldt runs crossed home in the top of the fifth to push them to 21-total.

Cherryvale responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth but that was it.

Brooklyn Ellis earned the win allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Morgan Mauk had a four-hit game followed by three hits for Sydney Barker and a three-hit, two home run game for Isabelle Murrow including a grand slam.

Kirsten Roush and Ellis each had two hits.

The Lady Cubs had 17 total hits.

Cherryvale had three runs in the bottom of the first in game two to take their first and only lead in the series. It lasted through the third before an eight-run fourth inning put the Lady Cubs back on top 9-3.

Cherryvale scored one of its two final runs in the bottom of the sixth and Humboldt responded with four runs in the top of the seventh to push their lead to 13-4.

The Lady Chargers got a final run in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Ellis once again got the win, allowing five runs on 10 hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
