The Lady Devils are looking to get back on track after losing two consecutive games against Seward County Community College and Colby Colby Community College.

ACC sits at 6-7 overall with a 1-3 record in the Jayhawk Conference. This season’s win count already doubles that of a season ago. Still, head coach Rachel Janzen is eager to piece together another win.

“Our biggest thing right now is finding consistency,” Janzen said. “We are putting three quarters together but not four. But our chemistry has been unbelievable the past few weeks. Every game we have four to five players in double figures, so the girls are sharing the basketball, and really growing together. That is awesome to see as a coach.”

Points are pouring in from many different directions for the Lady Devils. Freshman point guard Courtney Crippen has kept the pistons pumping on both sides of the ball. On Saturday, Crippen finished third in scoring with nine points to go along with thee steals.

Pairing with Crippen in the backcourt has been Ariel Walker, who missed some of the early stages with an achille’s injury. So far, Walker is averaging 14.6 points per game, most recently scoring 17 points on 50% shooting against Colby.

“Ariel is just so versatile,” Janzen said. “She can get to the basket, shoot the three, and is very hard to guard. She has stepped back up from her injury and has been a spark plug for the girls.”

Sophomore transfer Masie Schroeder has been another key contributor due to her ability to score at all three levels.

“Masie has had huge games for us lately,” Janzen said. “She started getting her 3-point shot down, and she is a hybrid post player and is extending her game. She has been the one to step up her game.”

The Lady Devils will need their strength and numbers tonight against Dodge City Community College. Luckily, ACC has the home court advantage, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.

“Dodge City is good, and they are on a roll right now,” Janzen said. “But I love that we are home because the girls play really well at home.”
