1. Pat on back

Chase Elliott got a pat on the back from his car owner Rick Hendrick after winning Dover. “You know he is smart, he is like his dad,” he said. “He is really smart, he knows when to race and he has got unbelievable car control. I’m just very fortunate to have him in our camp.”

2. Laps don’t count

Kevin Harvick led at Dover five times for 286 (of 404) laps but finished sixth. Elliott led once, led 11 consecutive laps and won the race in overtime. Harvick will take the Cup Series points lead to Talladega. “I don’t really care about points,” he said. “I’d rather win.”

3. Teammate caution

Aric Almirola looked like he was on his way to victory, but with eight laps to go in regulation, his teammate Clint Bowyer crashed, which brought out a decisive yellow flag. “We’ve had so many opportunities,” said Almirola, who finished 13th. “I’m frustrated and mad and angry.”
