Fillies close out season with road split

The Iola Fillies ended the 2017 regular season at Prairie View on Tuesday with a split, falling to Wellsville and beating the host Buffalos.
The Fillies struggle out of the gate as they fell 2-0 to Wellsville (16-25, 12-25).
In set one, Iola had just two aces, one from senior Colbi Riley and one from junior Piper Moore. Moore led the team with three kills while senior Katie Bauer had two. Shaylee Sutterby had the only block of the set.
Set two had more struggles in store for the Fillies and Riley was the only one to put up multiple kills with three. Chloe Gardner had the only ace and Moore had four digs.
Business picked up versus Prairie View earned a 2-0 win with both sets being fairly close affairs (28-26. 25-20).
Moore had her way at the net in set one recording six kills to lead the way for the Fillies followed by three kills for Riley.
Mia Aronson led the way with aces with four and Bauer, Riley and Gardner each chipped in an ace.
Sutterby had the lone block for Iola.
Then in set two, Moore had five kills and three aces to lead the way in both categories. Riley had two aces and Sutterby had one.
Riley, Bauer and Sutterby each had a kill.
The Fillies will head to Burlington on Saturday for Sub-State. Iola will face Girard, Parsons and Burlington. The tournament will start at 2 p.m. with the winner going on to compete at the state tournament at the Salina-Tony’s Pizza Events Center on Oct. 27-28.
