Iola High School’s JV volleyball squad competed against Labette County, Coffeyville and Fort Scott’s A and B teams during its trip to the Fort Scott JV Tournament on Saturday.
The Fillies came away with two more wins, defeating Coffeyville and Fort Scott’s B team. But coach Emily Hampton’s team also dropped two contests Saturday, losing to Labette County and Fort Scott’s A team.
In Iola’s two set loss to Labette County (25-10, 25-14), the Fillies’ Riley Murray led her team with two kills in the game. Colbi Riley, Jayden Sigg and Brooke Storrer all recorded one kill.
But the Fillies found their offense in the next game against Coffeyville and won in two sets (25-16, 25-19).
Murray had six kills, Storrer had three and Riley had two.
Katie Bauer helped boost the offense with six service aces of her own.
Iola continued its hot streak with a two-set sweep against Fort Scott’s B team (25-20, 25-18).
Katelynn Olsten was the Fillies’ most effective player behind the service line as she racked up a team-high nine aces.
No other player had more than two.
Murray’s two blocks and Riley’s two kills against Fort Scott’s B team helped seal Iola’s second straight victory on the day.
Unfortunately for Hampton’s squad, the Fillies could not keep up their hot streak against Fort Scott’s A team to close out the tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers downed the Fillies in three sets (25-15, 14-25, 15- 13).
Riley had four service aces and Sigg had four kills against Fort Scott’s A team, but the Tigers were still able to hold on to the close victory.
Riley, who had three kills, and Murray, who had two kills, were the only Fillies with multiple kills beside Sigg.
Storrer, Olsten and Katie Bauer each recorded one kill in the game.
The JV team will play next on Tuesday against Santa Fe Trail and Osawatomie.
