Four area softball players received spots on the All-Three Rivers League Team, released later than usual due to Uniontown’s impressive run in the 2-1A state semifinals.
Crest senior catcher Kaelin Nilges was one of only four unanimous decisions while senior teammate Kinley Edgerton, Yates Center senior pitcher Kinley Morrison and Yates Center junior pitcher Cayten Cummings also received recognition.
Nilges earned a first-team selection. Although a wall behind home plate as catcher, Nilges’ reputation came from her power hitting. She finished the season with a .595 batting average, driving in 30 runs, including five homers, three triples and 11 doubles. She also dabbled in pitching, notching three strikeouts over the season.
Throwing to Nilges throughout the season was Crest’s ace Edgerton, who received an All-TRL honorable mention. Edgerton racked up 46 strikeouts over 52 innings on the mound. She finished the season batting .500 with 26 RBIs on 29 hits, 10 doubles and a home run.
Morrison was Yates Center’s only first-team selection. She served as the Wildcats ace throughout the season. She was also one of Yates Center’s most reliable hitters, often finishing near the top of their leaderboards in nearly all the Wildcats’ offensive leaderboards.
Wildcat junior Cayten Cummings received an honorable mention for her service on the mound and in the batter’s box this season. Cummings was one of the players challenging Morrison in hits and RBIs each night while also more than carrying her load on the mound. She is one of seven returning upperclassmen to Yates Center’s roster.
