ERIE — Humboldt Middle School’s track team ended its 2014 season with a bang — and plenty of medals.
Both the seventh- and eighth-grade boys teams took third in their respective divisions, while the girls squads took fourth in both seventh and eighth grades.
Among the highlights:
Kaylie Johnson set personal bests in the long jump and 400-meter dash to win gold in both events. She then anchored the seventh-grade girls medley relay team, leading them to another gold medal. Johnson, Morgan Mauk and Aricah McCall placed in all four of their events. This trio accounted for 47 medals between the three of them.
Sierra Brinkerhoff improved her personal best in the long jump to win the eighth-grade girls long jump.
Meanwhile, Kaiti Carpenter had a pair of strong finishes in a pair of sprints. She edged another runner at the line to take second in the 400-meter dash before passing another runner in the final leg of the medley relay, this time to win gold.
On the boys’ side, the seventh-graders’ 4×200-meter relay team continued its dominance with another gold medal. Bo Bigelow and Tucker Hurst placed in all four of their events to lead the team.
For the eighth-graders, Jacob Barker set personal bests in both the long jump and 400, finishing second and third, respectively. Barker and Noah Johnson placed in all four of their events.
