After falling in both games of Thursday’s doubleheader against the North Platte 80s, the Iola Hormigas got back on track with a 17-13 victory over the Trinidad Triggers.
A pair of four-run innings to open the game put Iola in control early, but a six-run seventh inning secured the victory as the Hormigas picked up their third win in five games after starting the season 0-9.
Starting pitcher Jacob Strobel picked up the win with a pair of strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings pitched while reliever Matt Deleonardo added a team-leading four strikeouts and closer Jacob Slocomb picked up the save with a single strikeout while coming on in the ninth inning.
Outfielder Miguel Tejada Jr. had a team-leading five RBIs while successful in 2 of 4 appearances. Outfielder Ramses Velasquez had three RBIs while tying Tejada, shortstop Oscar Galvez, third baseman Devin Radar and Dileonardo in hits with two each.
With the win, the Hormigas improved to 4-14. They return to Iola for 6 p.m. games against the Santa Fe Fuego Tuesday and Wednesday, then head on the road for a three-game series against the Blackwell Flycatchers.
